A great week

As I wrote already, this week I and hubby had holidays. We usually do around my birthday, so that we can relax a bit before the 'official' August holidays (when working doesn't make any sense, here, since EVERYTHING is closed and everybody is taking time off)
Since I've already posted a photo heavy entry, if you are curious about what we did, go on here

This year it started with celebration, since my name-day (Saint Marina, a Medieval nun) is on June 18th (monday this year) and my birthday is the 19th. We like to celebrate birthdays at home, having lunch all 4 together (me, hubby, my parents, sometime his ) with a menu chosen by the one having the birthday, this year I asked for 'Spaghetti alla Carbonara' ten days in advance, just to be sure... ;-).
The day after we had planned to go and visit an exibition in Castello del Buonconsiglio, the ancient residence of the Prince-Bishops of Trento http://www.buonconsiglio.it/English/default.asp?SezSup=2&SezInf=0&Livello=1&Pag=1&vrs=HTML (up north, not too far from the Austrian border), the castle is magnificent and the exibitions there are always extremely interesting and well organized, this time it is 'Ori dei Cavalieri delle Steppe, collezioni dei Musei dell'Ucraina' The Gold of the Horsemen of the Steppes http://www.buonconsiglio.it/StartHTML_En.asp
We came home overwhelmed, awed and inspired by the extreme beauty and by the wealth of information we found there, Tiziano went crazy taking pics of the castle itself and of the main gardens (that aren't always open), the museum personnell is helpful, competent and proud of the place they work in, it was a marvelous day.
After this, the week went with rest, conversation, reference-hunting, a nice afternoon on the Garda Lake (way better to go there in mid-week, right now). BTW we discovered that in Lazise there was a gathering of sports cars, I hadn't ever seen that many Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche in a single place ( I hate the idea of sport cars as mean of transportation, but like looking at some of them).
About cars... my trusted Nissan Micra, the Captain Sulu has reached the end of the road. It is an old Euro 1, and is ready to give up the ghost, besides, this spring my municipality had already implemented a block for Euro 0 and Euro 1, and it's likely that would happen again (at all effects making impossible for me to work).
So, this week we signed a contract for my new car, a Toyota Aygo (having driven a Japanese car for the last 11 years I'm not going to change).
I've heard a lot of good things about this little beauty, and with her I'll feel definitely safer driving around at the beginning of the new school year...
Here she is (mine has 3 doors, though).
Original photo from the Toyota site.
I'd love to give her a Japanese name (all the family cars have had names...).

Date: 2007-06-25 03:01 pm (UTC)Once I was terrified of driving too, then work forced me to start and now I enjoy it.
Mind you, I'm not a car fanatic either, those I love are like mules: sturdy, reliable and with few needs...
