:-)
Just got confirmation for my first book request through BookMooch.
It is "The Loose Thread: The Red Moon Anthology of English Language Haiku" Author:Jim Kacian.
Will be on it's way here from New Zealand by tomorrow...I can't wait already.

did you give a book in return?

I listed what I have to give, as soon as somebody requests one of mine I'll mail it to her/him.
By listing books (and mailing them) you accrue points that you may spend requesting 'smoochable' books from other members.

I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of Chiyo-Ni: Woman Haiku Master for about a year, without any luck at all.

I bought this book exactly 4 years ago, on June 5, 2003... from Amazon!

(Anonymous) 2007-06-13 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)I actually ordered it from Amazon in June 2006 - it was back ordered, then back ordered, then back ordered, then cancelled.
I placed another order from Amazon Marketplace which was also back ordered and back ordered and cancelled. In fact, I received my refund for this order last week.
I've seen physical copies of the book - a couple of my friends have it, but I've been unable to find a copy.
I saw two on Amazon last week - for about $40 - when I went back, they were gone.

it is a free-to-join 'club' for swapping book.
You put up a whishlist for books you're looking for and an inventory of those you want to give, once you have enough points (one for books available in your country, two for books abroad) you can request a title in your whishlist from the member who has it in his inventory.
You gain 0.1 points per book listed, 1 point for a book sent within your country and 3 points for books sent abroad.
You lucky U.S. residents also have
www.paperbackswap.com
and swaptree (now beta-testing).
If you join BookMooch, let me know, please.

I think I never really considered late-twentieth century paperbacks as potential rare books. In my mind they are the epitome of mass-market product, an unconscious limitation of mine, I guess.

So many fascinating books available over there...it's a torture. If I were to travel to the US I'd come with an empty suitcase.
The copy available on Amazon UK of the book Deborah is looking for *is* a paperback.
...And now I'm extremely curious about it, and the master haijin the book is about.

And now, come to listen to Japanese haiku read by Japanese! (wink, wink)
