:-)

Just got confirmation for my first book request through BookMooch.

It is "The Loose Thread: The Red Moon Anthology of English Language Haiku" Author:Jim Kacian.

Will be on it's way here from New Zealand by tomorrow...I can't wait already.

this sounds like a great idea.

did you give a book in return?

[identity profile] marina-bonomi.livejournal.com 2007-06-13 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
No, not to this specific user.
I listed what I have to give, as soon as somebody requests one of mine I'll mail it to her/him.

By listing books (and mailing them) you accrue points that you may spend requesting 'smoochable' books from other members.

Correction: 'moochable' books.

What is BookMooch? Is there a link for it?

I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of Chiyo-Ni: Woman Haiku Master for about a year, without any luck at all.

Debbie, have you tried this: http://search.lycos.com/index.php?src=tp&query=Chiyo-Ni%3A%20Woman%2BHaiku%2BMaster%2B

I bought this book exactly 4 years ago, on June 5, 2003... from Amazon!

Olga,

I actually ordered it from Amazon in June 2006 - it was back ordered, then back ordered, then back ordered, then cancelled.

I placed another order from Amazon Marketplace which was also back ordered and back ordered and cancelled. In fact, I received my refund for this order last week.

I've seen physical copies of the book - a couple of my friends have it, but I've been unable to find a copy.

I saw two on Amazon last week - for about $40 - when I went back, they were gone.

Sometimes you can find a rare book in some special book stores, or publishing companies -- that's why I gave you the link, maybe there are some who have it ... I didn't check them all -- the list is too long :) Good luck to you! Maybe, they will print another edition soon...

http://bookmooch.com/

it is a free-to-join 'club' for swapping book.

You put up a whishlist for books you're looking for and an inventory of those you want to give, once you have enough points (one for books available in your country, two for books abroad) you can request a title in your whishlist from the member who has it in his inventory.

You gain 0.1 points per book listed, 1 point for a book sent within your country and 3 points for books sent abroad.

You lucky U.S. residents also have

www.paperbackswap.com

and swaptree (now beta-testing).

If you join BookMooch, let me know, please.

Found one used copy listed at Amazon UK...
for £75, when I read the price almost fell off my chair... :-((

[identity profile] origa.livejournal.com 2007-06-13 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you seen the prices for some of Blyth's books? :) Or, haiga books I listed in my post about haiku library? Yes, if they are rare -- they will cost you ...

[identity profile] marina-bonomi.livejournal.com 2007-06-13 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That I know, Olga.
I think I never really considered late-twentieth century paperbacks as potential rare books. In my mind they are the epitome of mass-market product, an unconscious limitation of mine, I guess.

[identity profile] origa.livejournal.com 2007-06-13 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I see :) Btw, the books I mentioned, are not paperbacks (in the meaning we use it here). Especially haiga books are rarely paperbacks -- they are usually made as a gift books or photo albums...

[identity profile] marina-bonomi.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the ones in your list I saw (and drooled over)...just like the book Bette mentioned (and put up pictures of) in her LJ earlier.
So many fascinating books available over there...it's a torture. If I were to travel to the US I'd come with an empty suitcase.

The copy available on Amazon UK of the book Deborah is looking for *is* a paperback.

...And now I'm extremely curious about it, and the master haijin the book is about.

[identity profile] origa.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I've already made my poor husband a bankrupt wiht all the haiku book, and sumi-e books/videos/supplies ... (sigh)

And now, come to listen to Japanese haiku read by Japanese! (wink, wink)

Congratulations!

I didn't know this site: thanks
